I had the pleasure of working with the team at the BLDG to create two murals for a bar in Ludlow, KY. The team created the branding and identity while also crafting a number of stories based on truths and legends all coming from the rich history of the little town on the Ohio River. The Ludlow Tavern is a great neighborhood bar and wanted to integrate a bit of that odd history into the look and feel of the place with two 15 foot handpainted murals.
These two illustrations were based on true stories. Whiskers was a legendary two-headed catfish that was caught off a ferry landing in 1897 but quickly “met death in a frying pan.”
The rival fire companies image was developed from an 1893 article referencing an event from 20 years earlier about two Ludlow fire companies trying to best the other when a German grocery caught fire. The Walpus had their hand engines and the Silk Stockings, only leather buckets.
